And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever--the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. (John 14:16-18 NIV)

Christ, speaking in John 14, is just such a comforter, who is already standing with you. He is called, as is the Holy Spirit, an advocate, in Greek, a paraclete, one who not only consoles, but also counsels and advocates just as lawyer would do for a client. Christ is the best counselor you can ask for. You can trust him. Ask him anything. Look inside of yourself and see that he is with you. In the worst of times, don't run away from your issues or just slam the closet door on the same monsters that have threatened you in the past. Pray like your life depends on it. Ask for help.

There are other people in this with you. Ask a trusted friend or family member to help you. There are also counselors and pastors whose calling in life is to help in just such a situation. There is strength in the love of a community of committed believers.
